Ballinrobe Racecourse

Ballinrobe Racecourse is a horse-racing track in Ballinrobe, County Mayo, Ireland.
It is opened in 1921, at Castlebar road.

History

Ballinrobe Racecourse is located one mile from the town on the main Castlebar road (N84) and 2km from Ballinrobe town in the heartland of County Mayo, 50km north of Galway and 28km south Castlebar. The only racetrack in Mayo and one of only four in Connacht. It hosts ten race meetings annually, from April to September, opened in 1921.

The track’s trademark was easy-going with a patron-friendly atmosphere and became ‘Racecourse of the Year’ in 2012 by the Irish Racegoers Consultative forum.  It also features competitive Flat and National Hunt (jump) racing.

Track Details

It is a slightly elevated right-handed oval of about one mile and one furlong. While the back straight is uphill, the closing stages are downhill, and speedy types are most favored. Six-furlong races are run around a sharp turn.

The grandstand can accommodate 1,800 guests, built with a new boundary wall, turnstiles, and sanitary facilities. The track also has an ambulance track, a pavilion, and a restaurant, with a free parking space. The admission fee is €15 for adults while €10 for students and OA’s. The children under the age of 14 are free.
