History of Cherokee Casino & Hotel – Will Rogers Downs
1987 – The Track opened in August 1987 as the second pari-mutuel track in Oklahoma, located at Highway 20 just 3 miles east of Claremore in Rogers County, Oklahoma, near Tulsa, currently owned and operated by the Cherokee Nation.
1988 – The racecourse was considered the showcase of Oklahoma horse racing during its opening year, but such a title no longer existed when the great racetrack Remington Park was unveiled in Oklahoma City, adding to the fast deterioration of the track.
2001 – The Track experienced bankruptcy and closure.
2004 – The Cherokee Nation purchased and renovated the track, adding casino gaming. It officially opened again on December 4, 2005.
2006 – Live racing returned on February 24, 2006, holding two separate meets, one for thoroughbreds and the other for quarter horses and mixed breeds.

🐎 Live Racing Schedule
- Thoroughbred horse racing takes place on Monday, Tuesday, Wednesday, and Saturday from early March to late May.
- Quarter Horse races are held on Friday, Saturday, and Sunday from early September to mid-November.
Races
- The track has no major stakes races but features Appaloosa and Paint races.
Location and Access to the Racecourse
- It is located in Rogers County, near Tulsa, Oklahoma, and immediately east of Justice.
- As a racino, admission to Will Rogers Downs Racecourse is free for all.
- When live racing is offered, upgrades are available in the Clubhouse, including better views, food, and drinks but for general admission, everyone is welcome free of charge.
