1922 – A group of south-coast racing enthusiasts formed the Strathalbyn Racing Club.

The racecourse is known as one of the most challenging provincial tracks and is renowned for the hill on the turn into the home straight. It has a large expanse of lawned areas, manicured gardens, and rose gardens.
