Te Rapa Racecourse

Te Rapa Racecourse is a horse-racing track in Hamilton, New Zealand. It opened in 1924 at Te Rapa.

History

Waikato Racing Club was founded in 1924 and initially conducted meetings at Whatawhata and Pirongia. In 1887 the club’s name was changed to the South Auckland Racing Club, and Claudelands became the racing headquarters. In 1916, the South Auckland Racing Club became the Hamilton Racing Club but continued to race at Claudelands.

It is currently located on State Highway 1 north of Hamilton, New Zealand. It holds meetings fourteen times every year and shares the facilities with the Cambridge Jockey Club (two meetings) and the Taumarunui Club, who stage their annual meeting on the course in July.

The Waikato Club conducts three Premier Race Days. The Waikato Times Gold Cup Day in December; International Day in February; and Premier Jumping Day in May.
