There are plenty of championship implications in the Breeders’ Cup Distaff this year. Thorpedo Anna, aka The Grizzly Bear will likely be the shortest priced favorite on the card. I would guess she goes to post somewhere in the neighborhood of 3-5 and 2-5 wouldn’t surprise me. Her race two back against the boys in The Travers was a huge runner-up effort. Breeders’ Cup Filly & Mare Sprint – Race 4 at Del Mar – Post Time 3 PM Eastern
Win Contenders: Soul of an Angel, Society, One Magic Philly
For exactas, include Vahva, Scylla
Soul of an Angel just ran the best race of her career at this seven furlong trip, rallying from last of nine to win the Princess Rooney Stakes by three lengths in visually impressive fashion. She had been running in two turn races and the cut back to one turn really helped here, so much so that she has a decent chance to post the upset in this race, opening at 12 to 1. Most of the main contenders like to race close up early in the top three and if the pace is faster than average this mare could get up in time once again.
Saratoga Wraps Up
It is closing weekend at Saratoga plus we have the Pacific Classic at Del Mar. We’ll see if we can do some damage at both tracks! Alabama Stakes – Race 10 at Saratoga – Post Time 5:43 PM Eastern
Win Contenders: Neon Icon, Candied, Just Basking
Neon Icon won the first two races of her career powerfully under Saez, including a five length “ridden out” win at 10 furlongs in May. She shortened up to a mile and one-sixteenth for the Indiana Oaks, where Chatalas got loose on an easy lead early and had enough late to hold off a charge by a head, while Neon Icon ran evenly when fifth most of the race. Saez was NOT aboard for that last race and gets back on and in this situation he could have Neon Icon sitting second behind Chatalas in the early stages. Considering Chatalas hasn’t run farther than a mile and one-sixteenth and Neon Icon has won at this 10 furlong trip, that gives her a slight edge. Considering she opens at 15 to 1 she’s well worth the risk here.
