Festival of Stakes Picks

Good day and thanks for stopping by for a very special edition of the “Dog Blog”

This Saturday is the biggest day of the year in greyhound racing – It’s the finals of the Festival of the Stakes at Southland Greyhound Park.   This 20 race card has 18 stakes races and features many of the finest active racing greyhounds.

The racing should be outstanding … the mutuel pools should be strong … so without further ado – let’s take an in depth look at five of the championship finals on the Southland Twilight card.

Race #3 – 330 Yard Course – Super Sprint Championship

This race features the finest one turn sprinter in the country in the #7 Craigie Renegade.  This son of KC And All and Toni Works was the only greyhound to record three wins during the qualification races.  If this red male can break sharp, he should be extremely tough to catch.  I will use the #1 WW Flash Boy, #2 Kiowa Boyd Trip, and the #5 Craigie Hey You behind Renegade in all my trifectas and superfectas.

Race #5 – 583 Yard Course – Arkansas Bred Juvenile

This is an extremely competitive race.  I think that five of the eight greyhounds have a decent chance to be donning the winning stakes blanket.

I am going to box the #2 Mj Max Freeze, #3 Arkans Bd Natal, and the #4 Imark Ms Kitty in quinelas and box exactas.  I think these three greyhounds have the best combination of early speed and post position in their favor.   Both Freeze and Natal won three of their four qualification races.

Race #7 –  583 Yard Course –  Arkansas Bred Championship

I am going to key the #8 Bar Gin in quinielas and box exactas.  Although Gin might not be the fastest greyhound in this field, he is extremely well posted today.  All of the greyhounds in the 4 thru 7 boxes all want the rail very badly.  Bar Gin, who won the Southland Derby earlier in the year, should have lots of room to rush to the turn.

I will use the #1 Cbj Count Down, #4 Oaks Maddy, and the # 7 Rigged system with the #8 in my wagers.

Race #9 – 583 Yard Course – Juvenile Championship

This is a loaded race with eight fantastic young greyhounds competing .  All of these greyhounds could easily be in many stakes finals during their career.

I will key the #1 Tmc’s Zoomba on top in trifectas and superfectas.  This daughter of Craigie Whistler and Tmc’s Moneymaker comes into the final in raging form.  In her last race, this brindle female broke on top, showed good early speed, and crushed her foes by 12 lengths.   Zoomba loves the red blanket and should be very tough to beat at what figures to be a short price.

I will use the #2 Gonz Pancho, #3 Tnt Pachinko, and the #4 Flying Rocky behind the red blanket in all my exotic wagers.

Race #19 – 583  Yard Course – Darby Henry Sprint Championship

The last stakes race of the night features the best sprinting greyhound in the United States in the #7 Flying Wolf Pack.  After winning an amazing ten races in a row in August and September, this son of Flying Lone Wolf and Pj Aces Up finally had his win streak snapped last time by a couple of inches.  If the pride of the Lester Raines Kennel can break sharply and show his great early speed, he should be a chalk players delight.

I will use the #3 Pay Tree It and the #8 Classy Wolverine under the “Big Bad Wolf” in my trifecta wagers.

I would like to wish all the greyhounds and their connections the best of racing luck on this fantastic day of greyhound racing from Southland Greyhound Park.

The Festival of the Stakes – the best card of the year for greyhound racing fans!!
