Peter Pan Stakes 2022

The Kentucky Derby is in the books. We saw one of the biggest upsets in the storied history of the race. Sandwiched in between the Derby and the Preakness which will be run next Saturday, is the Peter Pan at Belmont Park. The Peter Pan is thought of as a prep if you will for the Belmont Stakes. We’ll see how that plays out this year.

Set Sail ships in from Santa Anita for Richard Mandella. This colt is well thought of and was bet that way in both his starts. He stretches out to a mile and an eighth from a mile but also cuts back to one turn from two due to the different configurations of Santa Anita and Belmont Park. There appears to be other speed in here so I think he will have to sit a trip just off the pace from the rail with Joel Rosario. If he can I believe he has the talent to win this stake right off the maiden victory. I land here.

Electability has won two in a row for Chad Brown and will have his share of support. He has yet to lose on dirt and gets Irad Ortiz for Eric Cancel. I have no knock on him I just think Set Sail might be a tad better.

Complete Agenda is a Curlin colt who reminds me of Known Agenda. He doesn’t have the resume of that one yet but runs late and should be closing. He should get pace to run at and maybe the light bulb went off last out, but I will have to see it to believe it.

We the People brought a lot of hype into the Arkansas Derby where he flopped and didn’t do much running. Prat sticks, and that means something but I didn’t believe in him before the Arkansas Derby, so he is another who has to show me he means business.

Golden Glider is a tryer. He tries hard in his races but thus far has been over his head. If these turn out softer than what he has faced he can contend and definitely get a piece.

Western River will have a lot to do especially at one turn.

Cooke Creek is an interesting long-shot. He has a nice draw and style to make a serious run in here. I see him as a legit contender.

State Planning has won two in a row at Aqueduct and now moves over to Belmont and to open company. I think this could be a reality check for him.

I don’t generally like a horse coming out of a maiden race right into a stake, and when I think, he may have to run a different type of race. That said there is not a lot of experience in here and Mandella doesn’t ship without a real chance. Rosario is pretty good at working out a trip so I’ll take my chances on the raw talent I think this colt has.

Enjoy the races!
