Saratoga Wraps Up

It is closing weekend at Saratoga plus we have the Pacific Classic at Del Mar. We’ll see if we can do some damage at both tracks!

This is the last Saratoga Saturday show of the season brought to you by AmWager! It was a good one.

Watch Saratoga Saturday

Now to the races.

In the Prioress on Saturday at Saratoga we have a field of 9 set to go. I like Brightwork on the outside. She is a better sprinter than router and she also loves the track at Saratoga where she is two for two. She was scheduled to return from a break in the Grade 1 Test bit a paddock incident forced her to scratch. This is a softer spot so maybe things worked out better this way. Her trainer has been red hot with limited starters and Saez should get a nice trip drawn outside. With some improvement from two to three I think she can run a big race here, big enough to win.

The Spinaway will also go on Saturday. This is a tough competitive race. I thought Pondering, The Queens MG and Quietside were tough to separate. Ultimately, I landed on Pondering who will probably be the longest price of the three. She looked sharp in the debut at Ellis and I think she can move forward in the second start even against tougher fillies. I also do not think she needs the lead to win. I think she can sit a trip, but should she happen to clear I can live with that also.

In the Flower Bowl I think Eternal Hope is sitting on a big race. She was a bit keen off the lay-off last out but should be much more settled here. She has plenty of class and this barn almost always means business.

On Sunday we’ll have the Jockey Club Gold Cup. Tapit Trice never put it together at three like I thought he may early in that year but at four he seems to have blossomed. His come back race at Monmouth was visually impressive and he was easily much closer to the pace than he was at three. He looks very dangerous to me and might be one of the better older horses, we will find out Sunday.

At Del Mar Adare Manor will try to one up Thorpedo Anna who ran second against males in the Travers. She will tackle the boys in the Pacific Classic and while Thorpedo Anna ran a huge second, I think Adare Manor will win. She catches a soft field for the Pacific Classic and is in peak form. Her last two races were excellent including a win over the track.

Enjoy the races!
