The Gulfstream Park Championship Meet is underway, and it is time to delve into some of the stakes that will be run there over the winter. The Grade 3 Mr. Prospector named after one of the most prolific sires the game has known is Saturday. We’ll look at the field and see what we come up with.

Flap Jack will break from the rail. He adds blinkers and likes to lay close to the pace, a tactical advantage more often than not at this track, but he looks in deeper waters than he is used to, I don’t like him in this spot.

Wind of Change has speed and Zayas is riding very good. Saffie Joseph usually wins a lot of races at this meet. He has a win from six tries over this track, and I think he is dangerous. He is not my top choice, but I respect his speed.

Poppy’s Pride is another with speed and he does like Gulfstream. His two starts since his break are not nearly as good as the ones before. This is a tough spot to rebound, and I don’t think he can do it.

Endorsed looks live here. I will be the first to say he has been a disappointment, but maybe in the fourth start for Maker he will run his best race. He is bred to go long but turned into a sprinter. He’s hit the board in all three of his starts at Gulfstream, but he will have to come from off the pace and that does not always fare well here. I am willing to give him a shot here. Sometimes it comes down to who you think is the best horse in the race combined with not really liking anyone else.

Dennis’ Moment is probably a bigger disappointment than Endorsed. He did win last out, will probably be favored, and had enough hype early to go off odds on in the Breeders’ Cup Juvenile back in 2019. I never believed in him. He will have to prove me wrong on the racetrack.

Doc Amster looks a little cheap for these but brings some speed and that will hopefully help the horse I like. He likes the track, but I don’t see him winning this.

Officiating is an interesting horse at a nice price. If you toss the route over the synthetic track, he looks a lot better. He has won over the track, has Saez riding for Joseph, and might still have some upside. I think he will appreciate the move back to the main track and I think he has a chance.

Endorsed will have to have his running shoes on but I think he may finally put it all together. I don’t like going after a horse over a track I don’t think will favor their style and pace set up but as I said when you don’t like anyone else, and you think a big effort is coming, you go with who you think is best. The good thing about this game is when get to go after them again!
